The availability of the new “Certified Personal Retirement Specialist” (CPRS) Professional Designation was announced recently via Greene Consulting and the University of Georgia.

The CPRS is “designed to equip financial professionals looking to compete in the $25 trillion U.S. retirement market.” From the release announcing it:

“This fast-track, self-paced online designation is available via Greene Consulting’s web-based educational platform, which currently serves thousands of professionals throughout the financial services industry.”

"Existing retirement designations only address facts regarding retirement topics. The CPRS™ professional designation extends beyond the technical topics of retirement planning and provides professionals additional content on the actionable strategies, examples and best practices for how the most successful financial advisors are effectively engaging clients and prospects on the complexities of retirement planning. The CPRS™ is the only professional designation that truly provides financial advisors with a competitive edge and a strong sense of confidence in delivering retirement solutions by addressing the technical knowledge as well as the conversational skills necessary for success."

“CPRS” doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue, but thoughts on its chances of catching on?

CPRS Professional Designation Debuts Re: CPRS Professional Designation Debuts
Well, the price is right compared to others (RICP, CRPC, etc.):
- $1,195 or $695 for those who have completed a CFP educational curriculum within the past 5 years.
- Plus, it counts for the retirement course for CFP requirements.

And it is accredited through the University of Georgia, so that should help with any compliance concerns with broker/dealers, etc.

$195 renewal every two years with 15 hours of CE to be reported.

However, according to their "Key Information", I am not eligible because I don't have a bachelor's degree. Oh well.
