Frigging French are all fired up and contacting Hillary Clinton and so on. This is about the only international issue they can rally around. That's some treaty we have with the French when a convicted child molester is free from extradition. Oh, that's right. He is a Hollywood celebrity and it was an artistic expression on his part. Drugging her helped with that artistic expression too I think.

Sarah Palins daughter becomes pregnant at 17 or 18 or whatever through consensual sex and the whoopi's want to destroy her. Then frigging Michael Jackson or Roman Pevertski drug and rape someone and we have to understand that the rest of the world does not share our values.

If a 20 year old woman is raped in an alley they are having candlelight vigils down at City Hall. However, if some goddamn pervert repeatedly rapes and sodomizes a young girl over a ten year period starting at age 3 and a judge in Vermont (for example) gives the pervy probation and counseling, they dont say a goddamn thing. You do know most hard-core feminists believe it is the right of the woman to terminate pregnancies half of which (I assume) are females.
Most hard-core feminists also believe a woman should be able to choose to live life however she wants, as long as the hard-core feminist agrees with the lifestyle choice. Ever been around a 19 or 20 year old woman (especially a very smart, college educated and attractive one) that tells a hardcore feminist she wants to be a stay-at-home mother?

I am not as sure that the circumstances are precisely as you described. Lawyers for Polanski and prosecutors were both having a series of informal, in-chambers discussions with the judge as the case proceeded. At some points the judge leaned toward just giving Polanski a sentance limited to the time he had already served and that sounded good to Polanski but further along he began to talk about possibly giving him additional time so he fled. Whether there was a formal plea agreement in place, has not been litigated yet and is in dispute. We cannot say the judge changed the plea agreement because it has not been established yet that there was one just because Polanski's lawyer argues thusly, and we cannot say that the judge "sentenced him to jail" because he fled before the judge had the hearing and issued the final ruling. He feared that he might do that but it never reached that point. In any case, if he didn't like it, he could have appealed and if he doesnt then he is a fugitive. Polanski had a plea agreement with prosecutor, not with the court, and the court was mulling over whether to accept that plea agreement or to give him more time- or at least that is the issue that would need to be litigated. It is a little more complicated than Polanskis laywers would argue.
Right now Pevertski is arguing for bail or house arrest in Switzerland while this thing goes on. I wonder how the lawyers are going to argue that one ........err.....ahhh...."Your Honor, my client is an excellent candidate for house arrest or bail if you can overlook the fact that he previously skipped bail in California and is currently a fugitive on the run. Oh, by the way Your Honor, Mr. Polanski is a great director dontcha think."

Plus failing to appear in court which is another crime and often does not please the judge. Yeh, he has some legal beef about a plea bargain. Well so what. You have to appeal it through the courts if you dont like what the judge does. Nothing new there. The prosecutor and the defense had a series of meetings in chambers with the judge wherein the judge indicated that he was leaning toward letting him off with time served. Later, with more information it looked like he might go for a harsher sentance, much harsher, so Pevertski fled because he didnt like the way the judges comments were shaking out. The judge can change his mind any time he wants before a formal order is entered. Pevertski alleges that he can't or that it was boo-hoo unfair. Again, his remedy is to appeal it which he didnt. So poo-poo on him. I hope the "girls" in the California pen love him and teach him a few things about cultural diversity all while his French film buddies are lecturing us.
Last I heard Pevertski's lawyers are arguing that he should not be extradited because the treaty with US only covers crimes where imprisonment would be more than a year and they argue that he would not have received more than a year if he had been sentenced. Hmmmmm. Let's see now. He fled because he was afraid that he was looking at a long, long, long sentance and now he is arguing that there is no reason to believe that he would have gotten more than a year. Perhaps, they should revert back to the easy stuff like arguing why he is not a flight risk so they should be let out on bail. I'm telling ya. The French may pander to their libs on the surface but they dont want him back which is where he would flee to. They don't need that type of heartburn.
Any guess about how long it is before they start arguing some health issues, mental or physical? The Libyan guy got good mileage out of prostate cancer. That might be worth a shot. The sad thing is that no one can even remember now what award he went to Switzerland to get. I feel bad about that.
