Educational Events, Mailers, and Lists

Why on earth would you do ANY educational events??? What a colossal waste of time. You can't sell, you can't market.....in all honesty, why bother. So you educate Granny Smith who takes all your information and goes down the street to some agent who is actually selling plans. No thanks. If I am walking out my door, there has to be a financial interest for me turning the ignition on my car.
I have zero desire to be the Free Public Library and i instruct all of my downline agents to conduct themselves the same way.
I market exclusively by compliant educational seminars. My Granny Smiths aren't going down the street to buy from another agent, though, and they do refer a lot of their Granny Jones friends to me. I have a financial interest, too, just without the need for the attendee to become a client on the same day as the seminar.

Something I've come to discover after three years on this board is that every time someone declares some practice or method to be doomed to fail, there are others who are wildly successful at doing that very same thing.

It is based on 23 years insurance experience in a difficult and competitive market. Oh and you are right, though. The last 2 AEP's I made a lot of money with educational meetings. I did so when folks would leave my competitors educational meetings at the diner down the street from me and walk in to my retail location where they would select a plan. Maybe it works for you and that's great, God bless. For me though, I watched a steady stream of clients walk into my retail location and tell me how they hit the guy's meeting down the street for a free breakfast and would instead enroll with me as they did their shopping. Turn that educational meeting into a sales meeting and put yourself into a position to ensure those clients are yours. I have always believed in never leaving anything to chance. If I am going to spend time educating these people I want to make sure they don't leave my meeting and run to some retail location like the one I run to enroll. My knowledge and expertise should lead to my sale.

I would offer to civic groups to be a guest speaker about Medicare and have some tips / resources for people caring for aging parents. Chamber groups, rotary clubs, etc. Even though the actual attendees may not be Medicare eligible, they may have family that is.

As mentioned, you can speak about Part C and D as long as it is generic in nature, do not mention any specific benefits or carrier names and you will be compliant. If someone asks about a benefit or carrier, tell them you can meet with them after the meeting, have them sign a SOA (Scope Of Appointment) form, and have the conversation or set the appointment.

WARNING - Shameless Plug - I have some pre-designed seminars, one which is a walk through the Medicare & You Book (updated for 2016). We (Senior Marketing Specialists) give them to our contracted agents. If you are interested, let me know. [email protected]

I'm interested in starting to host educational events. First of all, does anyone have any luck or experience with this? I first need to
1) Get a list of addresses of people turning 65 in the area I am holding the event.
-I've never purchased a t65 address list before. Where is the least expensive option to purchase a list of just addresses?

2) Print a Mailer
- Which company will mass print a mailer at the best quality for the lowest cost?

3) Combined say if I send a mailer out to about 1-2k people T65 in an area, about how much out of pocket for just the list and the mailers am I looking at?

4) Has anyone done this before? If so how many RSVP's did you get? IS IT WORTH IT?

I've been a broker for quite some time, but just recently went independent. This means I have to do my own lead generating, and I need some help from anyone who knows some tricks on hosting seminars/educational events. Thanks!

real class act by gordon to air other peoples' dirty laundry via hearsay, (unprovoked as far as I can tell,) and then comment on the agent's looks.
