Does anyone have any thoughts on which Medicare Advantage plan is most popular in this area, has largest network, etc?

I have 2 clients moving to here shortly and are on a UHC Med Advantage plan in St. Louis at present. They are on a $0 premium HMO now.

UHC has a local plan there call Preferred Choice Palm Beach. It's an HMO with $5700 OOP, $0 drug deductible. 4.5 Stars.

There are a wide variety of $0 premium plans available, both HMO and PPO.

Humana is the most popular HMO but has all of the Humana restrictions (choice of specialists, etc).

UHC's PPO has $0 deductible for OON, that is a big plus for them in Palm Beach County because the OON copays aren't much higher than for network doctors.

Aetna has a good PPO as does Humana (Humana's has $0 OON deductible also)-Aetna's network is stronger in Palm Beach County than Humana for the PPO.

I have clients on all of the above, both HMO and PPO, in the area, it's just a matter of doctor availability, Rx needs, and whether they need coverage for routine care out of the area (all of the PPO's offer travel benefits for routine care but you have to match the network availability in the other state before moving forward).

My recommendation would be a PPO plan for the 1st year, there really isn't a need to limit to an HMO unless very low copays are important and the network restrictions aren't an issue.

That's actually Preferred Care Partners, a division of UHC, and has a rather small network-they have a great plan for Broward but the Palm Beach plan isn't worth considering. If networks aren't an issue the Coventry HMO plans have really low copays and MOOP (I believe one of them is $3400).
