I must admit, for those of us who don't believe that either major party deserves control of both the White House and Congress, this is getting funny.

On one side we have the Democrats, who have fallen directly into the standard political trap of assuming that, because they dominated the last elections, they have been given a "mandate" to cram 100% of their ideological agenda down the throats of America. For our "own good". Whether we like it or not.

Predictably, the Democrats look at Tuesday's electoral losses as a clear indication that they have not been liberal enough with their efforts. They have convinced themselves that America is demanding to be mothered for the rest of our pathetic lives, and that only Democrats can help us.

On the other side we have the Republicans, who are doing absolutely everything they can to waste this golden opportunity. I remain absolutely stunned that so much stock is being put into Sarah Palin (good gawd), and that the party is so devoid of leadership that no one has thought to pull some leaders together and come up with a coherent and cohesive message to deliver to the public as the Democrats are wobbling.

The GOP's "strategy" appears to be beating themselves into submission before taking on the Democrats, which really sounds like a fabulous way to take advantage of the Democrats' weaknesses.

So, rather than let this madness get to me, I'm trying to enjoy the show. It's like watching a Fellini movie - clowns, horses, stuff flying through the air, no one really seems to know what's going on, least of all the viewer. Wish me luck.

I'm laughing. To keep from crying.

Make you wonder if we'd be better off without political parties.

I think the GOP needs to be gutted like a dead deer. Most of the insiders are worth as much as the entrails of a deer.

It's just history. The GOP lost in 1960 when a sitting VP lost to an unknown senator. So they turned inward saying "We need to be far more conservative." They nominated a true arch-con in 1964 and he got skunked by LBJ.

It wasn't until the GOP shunted aside the arch-cons and presented a more moderate/middle-roader like Nixon that they won. Reagan was also moderate enough to appeal to mod-dems.

So the GOP will offer up a Palin or a Huckabee whom Obama will trounce the same way LBJ did Goldwater and the GOP will once again realize that they need a slightly bigger tent than the a-cons can provide. The GOPs shot will come in 2016 when some moderate GOP version of the "New democrat Clinton of 1992" will emerge and will win.

In the meantime, all of us mods and libs are having a great time watching the GOP fight like Jews and Arabs or Irish Catholics and Protestants over who's god is more god-like!

Regardless of neo-con or moderate talk, as Mac stated the Repubs simply have to put together a coherent message and stick to it.

It is Republican 101 stuff -and it will sell: "We're against taxing and spending." I mean, does it really have to be more complicated than that?

I think it may end up being more complicated than that.

Seems to me that, over the last four decades or so, the American Left has slowly convinced more and more of the populace that it's the responsibility of a bunch of professional politicians and the federal bureaucracy to "take care" of us. The party of "ask not what your country can do for you" has turned into "ask first what your country can do for you". They've made it more and more acceptable to be more and more dependent on government, and I think that notion has the momentum.

I also thought the Broncos were going to win the Super Bowl last year, however, so we'll see...
