I am interviewing and getting positive responses from both Met Life and New York Life. I have never been in the insurance business but I have 14 years sales experience. I am trying to evaluate the pros and cons of both companies. I have a family and need to have a company that I can build a career with long term. Met offers a salary during training and that is one advantage that I see upfront. I was glad to find this forum. Your input is appreciated.

Visit both offices and talk to new agents AND veteran agents in the office. Use the "Search" feature on this Board.

NYL may be your best option if you wanted to focus on life insurance. If you want to be able to sell all lines, including products of other companies, Met may be your best bet.

Your potential manager should be a person you are very comfortable with. The office atmosphere should be professional, but not uptight.

Talk to some of the agents OUTSIDE of the office for some of their opinions.

Both are good companies. Feel free to PM or EM for specific questions.

Both are good. NYL is more high networth and Met is more middle of the road. You may also want to consider talking to Northwestern Mutual, Mass Mutual, and Guardian.

If I were starting out, Guardian would be my pick.

I currently have a corporate contract with NYLIC and Guardian. Both very strong companies. Was captive with Northwestern 18 years ago, my GA there taught me everything I know about prospecting.
