Social marketing has become a focus for me. Twitter is a great tool for building relationships and connected with people.
Twitter is not just about "what are you doing now" but about giving you the opportunity to share your expertise with large groups of people (and you can target your audience to your specific market).
Some Twitter Tips:
1. When you first sign up try to get your name or some version of your name for branding purposes. If you can't use your business name or something that people can relate you to your business or industry. Getting both is a good idea too.
2. You MUST have a picture. Your own picture is best but a logo is OK too.
3. Engage in conversation. Use the @ symbol to talk directly to other people. (DM is a private message)
4. RT (retweet) this is a great compliment. When you retweet something it means that you liked what that person said so you sent it out to all of your followers.
5. Following people--who you follow is your choice. If you want to find industry specific people to follow you can use
Twitter Search Put in keywords and look at who's talking about what your interested in and follow them.
6. Followers- people who choose to follow you. You can block someone if they become abusive.
7. DON"T SPAM. Twitter is a place to build relationships not pimp your links. It is definitely OK to send links out periodically (we are marketing after all!) but keep it proportional to the good content and value you add too.
8. Fill in your Bio. If you don't have a website URL link to your Facebook or LinkedIn profile.
9. Add value--sent out tips, good information, join in a conversation.
10. Be yourself, be transparent, KLT Factor (be someone people can know, like and trust). Be interesting and interested!
Social marketing courses helped me and working with people who do it for a living. This stuff works.
Please feel free to follow me. Look at who I am following and follow those people if they fit your for you. DM (or pm me) if you have any Twitter questions.
Hope this helps!
Have a great day!
Chris
