A very good read, very perceptive.
Actually Rush used to be much more like Beck. In the good old days he used to do "caller abortions". It underscores his view that you prove that a position is absurd by being more absurd. It works and Beck is now doing that.
As Rush matured, in age and experience, and as his influence grew, he mellowed and is clearly not as outrageous in some of his material. He doesn't have to be, his views carry great weight, even if he has lost a lot since dieting.
Beck will have to make the same transition. Right now he can appear to be borderline crazy, as opposed to Chris Matthews who is just plain crazy. But as his popularity grows, Beck will have to become more serious, and make a more careful argument. The reason is simple, the bull has really big, nasty horns and so far has not directed all of its attention to getting Beck. (read the article) If his viewership continues to grow, more attention will be focussed on him. My hope is he makes no mortal mistakes that end his run.
