Received an email yesterday from Unitrin Direct wanting me as a life and health agent to refer clients to them. They claim they can save them money on their auto insurance or will give the client $20. It is a $15 referral fee for the agent that refers someone to them that asks for a quote.

Anybody had any experience with them? Or have an opinion?

#1, don't we get $25 per call, where we're going through?

BTW, I got my link two days ago. Been passing out the cards for several weeks. Made color copies of them.

Does any one remember, is Unitrin what used to be Kemper? Back in the shadows of my memory it seems to ring a bell.

I wish.

$15.

Got my links too. Passing out cards. No way to track this so who knows if we will ever get a check.

Why not just write for them? Unitrin Specialty Insurance

You can get a lot more than $15. They write mostly nonstandard auto when you go direct though. Decent rates for nonstandard, in fact, very hard to beat.

Got my plate full with health. Really don't care about going the P&C route.

So I guess we have to assume that they're going to track it and pay us corrrectly!!!

Let me think, we're supposed to expect an insurance company to do the right thing. I guess I'll see how it works, can't lose too much.

Huh? As a remarkable offer, this one doesn't have much impact. Snoozer.

You can only lose if you invest (time or money).

Figure I will throw a few cards around, promote the link, and see what happens.

Lot's of ways for them to (legally) avoid paying you.

Sent out my regular newsletter last PM. Have had 10% open (usually get anywhere from 12 - 19%). Out of 41 opens no one has taken the $20 challenge.

I suspect this is like a lot of other stuff. Unless they just got a rate increase you are not going to get any nibbles. Probably a campaign you will have to run 6 months to get a feel for it.

Re: Unitrin             Go to Top

To me, it's the same as STM or Dental. I get people approaching me all the time at my Career Group I lead, about STM. I have the link on the groups website.

I've gotten a few hits, and a couple of policies from it. It's the same with Unitrin. It's there. If they want it, I got it to offer. If not, it's no sweat off my back.

I'll be sending out my link this weekend.

I expect the same results you found.

Put it this way. I've spent no money getting involved. The link cost me nothing. So...

Yes! Unitrin is a holding co. They buy and sale co so fast it's hard to trace all of them down. I work for a co that they bought. We switched in Jan. It has been an absolute nightmare!Customer service (ha), I think they must hire highschool students of parolees, maybe? I work for the career agency part? We service very low income areas. I have lost alot of business because of claims, underwriting and C.S.Also have lifetime charge backs! They pay decent comm. but you can't over come the charge backs. And they want even let you draw your comm. unless your #'s are where they want them. It's unbeleivable. They have lied to us about several things in the contract. There are several agents talking to att.Warning stay away!
