Rick you were in politics?? In California?? WOW that mustve been brutal, doesn't seem like theres a good libertarian base in cali when i was there aside from the ron paul meetups etc.
Man I cant see you as an ass kisser (except when its Liano's), yeah I cant see you in politics, which is good, cause then you would have Al following you around digging up all your dirt, being your own personal Andrew Malcolm lol

I worked as campaign treasurer and fund raiser for several incumbents. They were all liberal democrats.
It took me some years to become enlightened.

Like Green Sky, I also went to UCLA and at age 20, took a summer job at Transamerica. I worked at their downtown Los Angeles headquarters building selling life insurance. They paid a draw against commissions that you had to validate every 3 months. I fully expected to work for the three months of summer, collect the draw, get canned and go back to school.
Instead I made pretty good money, got a raise and stayed with them. What 20 year old thinks that they need school.
Since that time, I worked with Equitable Life, was independent for 10 years, was a general agent for Kentucky Central Life, became a Regional Director for Mid Continent Life until they went under, went back to independent production, worked for a "trust mill" selling annuities and then went back to independent production 8 years ago. I now sell mostly annuities to seniors.
I was also on the periphery of politics serving as chairman of the Los Angeles Young Republicans at one time.

Got into biz working two summers in captive agency while full time student in college. After college (age 23) worked as a a P&C underwriter for large captive company.
Promoted to DSM at 25 for same company. Left company (age 27) to open Captive P&C agency w/ competitor for 5 years. Came back to first captive company to build upon $1.5M agency at age 31. Left Captive agency after building it to $2.4M by age 34. FINALLY decided to open an Independent Agency (focusing on Personal Lines P&C w/ Individual Life)...turning 36 in 4 months w/ 2 years under my belt as an Indy. Almost 13 years in the business before I discovered the Indy life/opportunity. I would NEVER go captive again. I have one FT licensed agent besides myself. We write approx. $45K in P&C premium per month (annualized) and the life premium is scattered at best. Ready for the next 13 years.

Started at 26. Went to ucla for undergraduate and a friend had an independent agency. He was the same age, never worked, and blew hundreds at the bars on a nightly basis. Insurance seemed the natural direction to head in. Been captive P&C for three years. 29 now and loving the career.

I am 34 and I am new to the insurance business. I got laid-off from switching job at a wrong time and to a wrong place. So far, I like the idea of becoming an Independent Agency. I spoke with State Farm (same age, TICA), Farmers (recruit office in Northern VA). I have been thinking of going Indy. since I know this forum.

Got my start with L & H at age 30. Was introduced to the biz by my uncle who has been in it for 10 years. Unfortunately that was with MEGA. At 31, wised up and went independent. Just got my P&C license two weeks ago, so things are pretty exciting right now. I am now 32.

Started at 16 for Allstate as a customer service rep at a local agency. Since then I've been a P&C underwriter, owned my own captive agency, then went indy. Now at 27 I am a territory manager for Texas.
