What will happen to Insurance Agents if Obama's plan passes?

I really don't understand all that he wants, it just scares me to death.

I'm not sure if he understands what he wants, besides for the govt to control everything.

The reality is most of us could be hit hard or even kicked out of this business if a few certain things come together.

Obama actually doesn't have a "plan". He is relying on the House and Senate to formulate the plans, of which there are five or six different committee "flavors" right now.

ALL of them embrace the idea of an online "Health Insurance Exchange" for individual and small group - which doesn't exactly portend fat times ahead for health insurance agents...

I'm hoping for 5-7%. The exchange is losing steam but GI is coming. I just need to make sure customers call me first and not the carriers.

Ya, from my understanding of things, the health ins. exchange is one of the few things that is bascially a done deal so far

I think we will be forced out.

Most small and large group would drop their group health because it would be cheaper to pay the penalty.

As it stands now if a family of 4 makes under $88,000 then they would qualify for the Gov. option.

If that bill goes through I think anyone specializing in the health market might want to re think their business model.

I don't want to make it seem like the sky is falling, but I'm getting pretty depressed. For someone that's only been a benefits broker for about a year and a half, where most of my block is group health (not ancillary) this news is not inspiring...

So hard to predict. Actually, impossible. I feel bad because I worked hard on my websites to get them where they are.

But I thought a long time about this and am now slowly making my exit from the health insurance business. Oh...I might pick up some scraps next year but I'm preparing for the day after.

Patriot...I will keep the Association going, but for the first time in a decade, I will start charging monthly dues of $15.

This will start in December. Of course, as always, EIEIO insurance and aged incentivized leads will be included at no charge.

In the end I think there will will just be more competition and lower commissions. More companies will do more supplemental health like long term disability, cancer, heart attack, accidental. And more agents will shift to life and P/C. And those who can't adapt will be gone.
