One of the best is a small company called Badger Mutual Insurance out of (where else) Wisconsin. Take my word for it.

I think that if you are going to list Auto companies that you should at least consider what the public says.

Look into the JD powers rankings. You do not have all of the top ranked companies on your list, and you may want to revisit this list before you use it to make any decisions.

Just my 2 cents.

Encompass is the brainchild of Allstate, but you have to have both HO & Auto together. Allstate agents hate it, and their lying if they tell you otherwise. State Farm, are you kidding? A company that is constantly in court defending it's "claims" practices. I've heard from several folks who have had to sue them just to get paid on a fire claim. Travelers, the quiet company but they seem to do well by me. I never hear much complaining about Met. Through Amerisave you can get Amex, with some kick butt rates. Mom had Hartford, thru AARP, till she got a quote from Nationwide. My uncle who was thru Geico, got a sweet deal from Nationwide. Geico has the best ad's, but not rates. I look for the quiet guys, Allied and such, they seem to just be there and be consistent. Farmers, can have good rates. But if you get in a wreck, you might wait two years for your medical bills if and when to get paid.

Thats just a little of my take from my experiences selling auto for nearly 10 years.

A few years ago I had my personal insurance with State Farm but owned a business with vehicles insured through Cincinnati Insurance under a commercial policy. A kid in a Mustang hit my new Chevy truck doing about $3,000 in damage (more like $5,000 today). He was insured by State Farm. State Farm was a nightmare to deal with from the opposite side of the fence. They wanted to put a used bumper on my new truck. They made me so mad that I dropped my personal coverage with State Farm.

They may be a good company for the insured but they are not good to deal with from the other side of a claim.

My company has them too, but hey, they'er our quirks...
FWIW, I hear more good things than bad about State Farm, and frankly, more bad things than good about Allstate, but both have millions of satisfied customers. And no, I don't work for State Farm.
The absolutely worst nastiest adjuster that I have ever had to deal with was with Allstate. He was loyal to the company and only cared about minimizing the claim. He was a smart alec, spoke down to you, and was very spiteful. If I had had a gun I would have been tempted to shoot him. He had been with Allstate more than 20 years but here is the hilarious part. Although he was a Allstate through and through they found a reason to get rid of him (could it have been age, pay rate, and retirement) and canned him within the last couple of years. I guess it just goes to show that what comes around goes around.
