Anita Dunn, White House spokesperson, declares Fox a tool of the Republican party:

I particularly liked Britt Hume's quote from Mark Twain:
"Never pick a fight with someone who buys his ink by the barrel."
All good fun. Loads of entertainment value. Just hope the White House really pours it on. All the dems and independents over watching Fox News must get a kick out of it too.

Well, you must admit that it is pretty darn funny. I do believe Anita Dunn would argue that she is all in favor of "freedom of speech" - it just appears that she fails to understand the difference between journalism/news and opinion shows.
Oh well. Must have been a product of publik edukashun.
Well, see that's the point. You just watch the lib stations. I am a little more conservative than you but I also watch CNN, listen to the BBC and NPR and also the programming from France on TV5 Monde. You guys need to become more open minded like the conservatives and take in differnt views. This isnt Alabama 1959. Cmon, think outside the box once in a while.
I like Juan Williams. He makes me think of this Chinese bartender guy in Tacoma, Washington. I was in a bar there years ago and the local gal I was with just said to me "that he (the bartender) was a waitress at a Chinese restaurant on the weekends. Huh? Juan appears on NPR in the mornings as a flaming lib. Later at night he re-appears as a conservative democrat with O'Reilley. Nothing wrong with that.
Actually, I used to dislike Juan Williams intensely until I read the Clarence Thomas biography. I discovered that the two got along quite well and that when Anita Hill was doing her tap dance on Clarence Thomas, Juan was defending Thomas.
I also gained a new respect for Juan Williams, whom I had always thought of as the rather soft-headed liberal on Fox News, who regularly gets beaten up by Brit Hume for being so utterly clueless.
But it turns out that, whatever his faults, Juan Williams is an honest guy who writes accurate columns with truthful quotations. The first big splash Thomas made in Washington was when Williams reported some off-the-cuff remarks Thomas had made to Williams about race. Thomas (rather naively) hadn’t realized his statements to Williams would be printed in the paper — but when they were, he says, he saw that Williams “presented my opinions accurately and fairly.” (They still created something of a firestorm. It was not popular for blacks to publicly say what Thomas had said.)
and
In case you’re thinking that Thomas is the only one who feels this way, let me quote Juan Williams, to show you why I have such new respect for him:
To listen to or read some news reports on Thomas over the past month is to discover a monster of a man, totally unlike the human being full of sincerity, confusion, and struggles whom I saw as a reporter who watched him for some 10 years. He has been conveniently transformed into a monster about whom it is fair to say anything, to whom it is fair to do anything. President Bush may be packing the court with conservatives [a joke of an argument given what we know about Souter -- Patterico], but that is another argument, larger than Clarence Thomas. In pursuit of abuses by a conservative president the liberals have become the abusive monsters.
All the dems and independents over watching Fox News must get a kick out of it too.
Hogwash, we watch cnn and bbc ...
40 years of libs running the education establishment leads to this.
You do realise we had a republican congress from 94-06 and reptilian president from 00-08. No child left behind ring any bells?
Who educated you in history?
And for the record Greta, Fox News is atool so is MSNBC. Duh!
Oh that's funny. Greta came from CNN. As far as the Bushwhackjob, how he was able to keep an (R) by his name on a ballot is beyond just about every Republican, Independent, Libertarian, Green, and of course, Democrat I've ever spoken to. Between his "delegation" of duties, and his AND Congress' complete dereliction, well, let's just say, there are a whole lotta congressmen/women who should have taken a good long look in the mirror and resigned.

No child left behind was yet another big-government waste of money boondoggle. I have never said that Repubs and Dems are on opposite sides when it comes to big spending and government encroachment. They aren't
But back to the issue. The reason our education system is horrible is largely the result of mush being taught in schools rather than hard course work in the sciences and arts. We need to forget trying to revise history along political agenda lines and get back to fixing our education system which would be extremely easy. It could be done almost over night:
1) Put money with the teachers not the administrators. A good 50% of administration posts (at least where I live) could be eliminated immediately.
2) Salary based on merit, not on union membership.
3) Eliminate all the touchy-feely nonsense PC courses and concentrate on math, science, history and other traditional course work. Get rid of all the "Heather Has Two Moms" crap and put serious literature back on the reading lists.
4) School vouchers. Teachers unions hate it. We need to learn to hate teachers unions.
5) Get rid of the PC idea that all students are "equal" and should be treated the same. Honors courses and recognition of academic excellence are being removed from the schools every day.
6) Forget about "mainstreaming" special needs students. Sorry, I know it sounds cruel, but it doesn't work very well for the majority of students trying to adapt.
My mother and my wife's mother were both forced out of the education establishment because they took flaky and unpopular positions like not passing 11th graders to the 12th grade in English who had not yet learned to read and write at even a 7th grade level.
I've watched public education in this country go totally to crap in a short 30 years, so don't say I am not aware of history.
Yup. I know about it. It is the bill that was proposed by George Bush but actually sponsored and introduced on the floor of the Senate by Ted Kennedy.
In regard to NCLB, I am all for it unless the libs want to propose an alternative which I am willing to listen to as well. However, it is mostly opposed by teachers because it is the first time in American history that their performance was measured and they dont like it. I can agree that some of the measurements turned out to be goofy and need to be revised but am absolutely against going back to a time when there was no measurement whatsoever which is what a lot of teachers want. That is why Kennedy also supported the bill. Minorities and underprivileged were/are being passed from one grade to the next by incompetent teachers and kids were left disadvantaged for the rest of their lives. In many instances, it was/is the administrative system or communities fault for not giving the teachers sufficient. resources. Fine, the goal is measure how the kids and the system are doing. In many instances the teachers are doing heroic jobs based on other factors. Fine, pay them more and get rid of the deadheads.
Again, I hear plenty of teachers who are opposed to No Child but not many who say "we need to measure but in a different way." As the dems would say about health care, you can't just say no to proposed solutions.
Funny how all the libs are ga-ga over measuring outcomes in health care now but fight it in education.
Our local school board has been run by libs for decades. The incumbents and one councilperson up for re-election ALL got thrown out by parents who want common sense change! Hope it's a small early sign of large things to come on the state and national level, if you get my drift!!!

...she appears to be a most defenceless animal; and even when those weapons are shewn and extended for her defence, they appear weak and contemptible; but their wounds however small, are decisive and fatal:—Conscious of this, she never wounds till she has generously given notice, even to her enemy, and cautioned him against the danger of treading on her.—Was I wrong, Sir, in thinking this a strong picture of the temper and conduct of America? -- Benjamin Franklin

Yeh, in some states, mine included, 80% of your property tax is driven by school costs. Those libs got elected to talk about education philosophy but they end out managing a lot of money. Not a good combination.
Dang! I guess I was too late to post it. Makes you wonder how many people really do love Mao (like Anita apparently does), and how many people they would kill in order to achieve their ultimate social "balance".
Obama is a communist, who has surrounded himself with communists.
He is hoping that most Americans don't notice.
Of course there are many people in this country who would prefer communism over the system that we were given by our founding fathers, but my hope is they are not in the majority.
The question is whether there are enough ignorant people, who don't understand what is going on, to give Obama the support he needs to undo what the founding fathers accomplished.
We have a BLACK president that you hate and we're going to get a version of health insurance reform that you hate, and we're going to get a tax increase that you hate, and we're going to have more social programs that you hate, and we're going to have gun control that you hate, and we're going to have same-sex legislation that you hate, and it is people like me who are now running the country... and you hate that more than anything... at the end of the day everything about this country is what you hate.
Why are you so intent on changing this country into something that you think folks HATE????
Why are you so intent on changing this country into something that you think folks HATE????
Because people like you seek to bring us back to Alabama of 1958. Guys like you would gladly undo all of the social legislation of the past 50 years. You would happily end Medicare. You would happily end food stamps. You would happily abolish public accommodation laws and voting rights. You would gladly end all regulation of business and you would happily suspend Miranda and due process. You would happily construct Camp Huckawitz and Camp Palin and send boxcars full of people to them to be "re-educated" (or maybe just a "shower.")
I know you. I know your kind. I know the monsters you are. I saw you with your dogs and fire hoses during the civil rights struggle. I saw you with your rifles at Kent State during the Vietnam protests. I saw you making your enemies list in the Nixon administration. I hear you every day when I listen to El Rushmo or tune into the Beck monster. I saw you with Glocks strapped to your legs carrying Nazi posters at town meetings this past summer.
You and your kind are the reactionary stormtroopers who wish to herald us back to your idyllic past where greed, selfishness, and intolerance were the three pillars of society... where only people of privilege (like you) received the bounties of society.
I know what you want. I know the kind of "culture" you and Barney and the other gun-nut, right-wing whack-jobs in this venue want. And I feel sorry for you... because there are too many people like me out there... who are simply not going to let you have it. And if that makes you miserable... so much the better.

As your beloved mentor said "Bring it on."
As mine said, "Never again!"
Dude, you are wrong on EVERY count. Consistently. You ain't talking about me. And in my day to day life of meeting many varied individuals, I have NEVER run across anyone stuck in the past with your extremist minority views (hopefully the next few elections will prove you rode in on a wave of liberal ignorance), and I talk to A LOT of musician-types and those who came up in the 60's as you did (the "bell curve" is about your age give or take 5-10 years either side). I was listening to your beloved "Puff the Magic Dragon" folks in the 60's, but I've moved on, so you're on your own there. You guys argue for change out of one side, and out the other side say pot doesn't change you. You may be right. How's your short-term memory nowadays?
The entertainment value here rapidly wears thin and quickly becomes an irritating, insignificant, wasteful distraction. You are free to babble on incessantly and I am free to not listen. You have a right to free speech, but you do NOT have a right to be heard. Carry on.
