I'm so excited! Today I passed my second practice exam. Tomorrow is my course final exam for life, accident, and health here in New York State. If all goes well, I'll be scheduling my licensing exam as soon as possible so I can get started!

Wish me luck for tomorrow. I will definitely come back and post results. So excited to join your ranks

I freakin passed!!! I'm pretty pumped.

Now I just have to wait for my certificate of completion so I can register for the state exam. Oh boy I will be pumped when that's over!

Yeah, it's pretty strict in NY. At the same time, though, the course I went through online has some ridiculous passing rate, so I'm sure they want to keep that in tact. Whatever they are doing, it's working though. I failed like three practice tests in a row. Then I finally started following their system and passed the next one with an 81.

Either way I want to pass this one badly. The more I read posts on this forum, the more I realize that a passionate, dedicated, motivated person with sales ability can make really good money and truly enjoy what they do.

I'm so stoked.

Congrats!

Yep, that is what it takes. If you are "passionate, dedicated, and motivated" you will spend the time necessary to begin building a book of good business.

The time you spend now will pay huge dividends for you in the future. I put in tons of time when I first started, now I'm a little more relaxed and have time for "me".

I'll tell you this much, if you're just going to do L&H you'll have a lot easier time getting started than in P&C.

Once you have E&O, L&H carriers will appoint you directly, it only takes a couple weeks from start to finish.

If you get into P&C then it's near impossible to get appointed when starting out as a new agent. Your other choices are captive companies who want to do all kinds of shady things via the district manager and a whole slew of different companies that'll let you go independent for a big chunk of commission.

It's tough to get it all sorted out if you go the P&C route. Good luck and best wishes.

Thanks for those words!
I'm going Life, Accident, and Health. My test is this coming Thursday I found out... so I'm going to study my ass off and make this happen.

If anyone has any good words for the time between passing the state exam and my first sale, I'd love it.

I took a classroom pre-test course back in 1988, in NY- I passed. You can do it. Just remember if an answer { or two or three } to a question does not seem correct- you probably read the question wrong, or comprehended it differently than intended. Go back and read it correctly, then you can answer it correctly. It's not tough, you can do it. Be positive and think that you are going to answer 100% correctly.

Very few Life carriers contract new agents direct. Not sure in NY on health if going direct is the way to go...maybe a health pro could help out here. For me going direct would have cost me about 3 points and a whole lot of flexibilty...there is zero advantages to going direct IMHO on health.
