I started test-driving Hometown Quotes last week. I have also been drinking noticeably more, and I suspect they're related.
Anyway, while I was on the phone with Michelle from HTQ (what a nice lady!) we had a long, involved conversation about filters. We ran through the filters I wanted and she looked to see how many agents I'd be competing with in my selected area. It came out rather favorably -- actually, surprisingly so. Then she made an odd comment:
"There are several other agents in the zip codes you've selected, but they're all filtering so that they
only get leads with severe medical problems."
Eloquently, I responded with "eh?"
Evidently, there are several agents working my zip codes (yes, they're mine, I went around and planted flags last weekend) who only want uninsurables or nearly uninsurables. Michelle explained to me that there were agents who were writing severely impaired risk cases with speciality insurers -- it was more work per case, but the payout was higher. She also said that she had recently spoken with one agent who specialized in writing health insurance for AIDS patients.
Okay, what?
I suspect the "speciality insurers" are limited benefit, mini-med peddlers like
VBA Limited Health Insurance Benefit Plans or
HealthCard Now , but I was just curious if I was missing something. I have an ethical stroke everytime someone says the phrase "Copay Saver," so the HealthCardNow's promise of a discount on medical care AND office supplies doesn't really strike me as legit.
Thoughts?
