There are some very well known and some not so well known insurance companies receiving TARP funds.

Personally, I will never do business with any company who has taken TARP funds if I can help it.

Why not? You fault a company for taking cheap capital?

I fault companies that don't. I want a company that does what's best for them and turning down cheap money is not best in this economy. Better be safe than sorry I alway say!

I want a company that is financially strong because of their wise and conservative operations. Because of their strength and reserves they can conduct their business as they see fit. One of the companies I use (Guardian) has actually had their financial rating increased in this market. You will not find any of the strong, old line (think mutual) companies accepting TARK funds.

There are many A rated companies that have put in for TARP funds. And don't get me started on Mutual companies. They don't have to disclose things like stock companies do and they are at a disadvantage since they can't sell stock to raise capital. Not that I don't like some of them, but they're not all "pros with no cons" like some would have people believe.
