California Rates- Here We Go Again.

This is getting to be the annual dance where Anthem in California raises rates and then Obama and Sebelius announce what the feds need to take over (excuse, "review").

Of course we wouldn't be seeing rate increases like this if Obamacare were fully implmented. They would be double this.

My May renewals for Coventry in GA make this look like nothing. The kids only plans (the ones taken before they stopped doing them) are between 40-70%. These are new business rates, not block increases like some companies here do.

When they first landed here they made a big deal about how renewal & new business rates would be the same.

Still doing that or was it like all the other crap they promised and never delivered?

Yep the renewal rates and the new biz rates are the same. Unfortunately the new rates are high, especially for under 19. Not that they write them alone of course but since you have to add them together when a family applies they still post them (and for the kids policies on the books already). They blame health care reform. I blame underpricing, then offering less and lesser benefit plans as claims catch up with them. This happened at Blue a few years back with their Value plans. Different company, same author, same results. Plus they said they "underpriced" the new rates last year, and warned us the rate increases would be high this year because of that. Hm...
