Carrier appointment

I am new to the Independent agency side. Why do some carriers ask you if you are part of a network or aggregator? If you put yes, will they not appoint you directly?

There are many reasons:
If you have a contract with an aggregator, the contract "may" preclude you from a direct appointment with that carrier.

When getting an appointment most insurers want to know your past experience with other insurers: Policies in Force, etc.

In addition many carriers do not want to deal with smaller agencies and would prefer that you access their products through an aggregator.
