Do appointments follow a book sale?

I've thought about buying a small independent agency but one of my fears would be that some of the carriers might say that I cannot sell new business with them. Is that very common?

That should be a condition of the purchase that getting appointed in advance is needed before sake is final. Also, is the agency entity licensed that you are buying versus just an individual license appointment. I would hope the entity is appointed with the carriers that should aid in the issue
