At the link below, click on "Fees", tab thru 5 or so slides to click on the fee calculator - this gives a comparison between fees for fully insured vs. self funded. It is a decent piece to show your business owners. Remember to enter the ANNUAL premium in to the calculator.
As much as we all "know" about the various fees either in place (PCORI) or about to be in place in 2014, this shows it all on one page. Obviously, it is tilted towards marketing self funded plans, but a good piece, nonetheless.
So far every fully insured group client of mine I have run is showing roughly 6-7% in additional taxes vs. ~1% in a self funded arrangement......
