Humana Sep 18 Policy Change

The just-released 9/23/2010 update from Humana shows a couple of items that I haven't seen before from other carriers regarding their compliance with the 9/23/10 mandates:

1. Unlimited Ambulance.
(This is big if you need to be airlifted. Had a client in a motorcycle accident and the helicopter ride was $2,300.)

2. Unlimited Mental and Drug Treatments.
(This is not the "screening" stuff...but actual treatment.)

I'm sure that both of these items are subject to the deductible, but it's nice to see that the dollar limits have been removed. Especially the mental, because ADHD doctor visits are frequent and the medications are several hundred dollars @ month.

Are we to assume that all per-service and per-treatment dollar limits are being removed from every individual major medical, or is this something that only Humana is doing in the Ambulance and Mental/Drug areas?

Yeah but can't a carrier just make mental and nervous "Not Covered" on their plans to get away with not covering it?

Sure no caps on coverage, cause we dont cover mental disorders.

Well... EVERY major medical effective from today going forward must include the mental screenings as defined here: U.S. Preventive Services Task Force Recommendations - Regulations | Implementation Center | HealthCare.gov

But if the screening finds that you're in need of treatment and your plan doesn't cover mental treatment, you'll have to pay for it yourself, without any of the costs counting against your deductible. A person who is near the edge might blow a gasket and come after his agent after learning this. Advice: Don't sell policies that exclude mental treatment!
