So hoping someone might have some useful advise.
I've had Gieco for years and years now. Former California resident, moved to Oregon a few years ago.
Had been told my insurance would go down, but noooo it went up! I have 2 vehicles, an 02 Mercedes C230 and a 1999 Ford Escort. Damn thing just won't die! Hate it, but it's alway running and basically worthless so I keep it (the Escort). In Cali my insurance for both vehicles was somewhere around $300, even less, every 6 months, liability only, no accidents or points on my record. Moved to Oregon, crap it went to like $425, small town on the South coast, much safer than the bay area where I was before where every day you take you life in your hands just to go to work and back. Next renewal it went to $525 and now $600. Wow. I checked to see online if there's anything amiss, not seeing it. I don't drive much these days, I've turned into that 'old' man who drive to the store and back. I work from home. I have both vehicles set to 1000 miles a year on the policy. I probably drive a little more than that but I haven't had an accident in like forever. I haven't had a claim in many years and that was for rocks that fell on the glass roof of the benz, which had full cov. at the time. My sig other is also on my policy. I tried seeing if removing her would lower the rate. She's 10 years older than me. It didn't. She never drives my car, but then she almost never drives since she let her car slip into an inoperable state of repair, won't part with a dime for repairs even if I'm doing the work. So I basically chaffeur her around. But I digress. She has Geico also She hasn't transfered her policy to Oregon after she saw what happened to me and pays like $30 a month for the crappiest policy possible just to not be uninsured. 15/30/5 but like I said it's just parked.
Also I noticed the folks at Geico did not update my license info when I informed them I was now in Oregon. DOH! Still shows as having a Cali license.
They basically had to cancel my policy out of Cali and then I had to go through the approval process in Oregon.
My 15 or so years with Geico seemed to matter not.
So I went to update my license info today, and it came up with something wierd, it said I had an accident in April of 2002 that was still under investigation. Huh? No accidents in 2002. The benz was new then. It's never been in an accident except the rock thing and neighboor backed into my door. And not in 2002, it said no change in price.. I told it to save the quote without processing the changes.
What the heck is up with that? 2002?
Anything I can do to reduce my rates? I mean, I've seen the articles about insurance rates going up, but double in a couple years is rediculous for no reason. And where I live now is hella safer than the Bay Area, which is total insanity. HELP!

Let me get this straight a poster named Crazy A$$ Driver wants to know why his auto insurance rates have doubled in a "couple of years" ???

Not an Oregon agent - but I would want to understand this: "accident in April of 2002 that was still under investigation." And are you sure you meant 2002 and not 2022?

"My 15 or so years with [an insurer] seemed to matter not." - No surprise there.

Here is my question - What did Geico tell you?

Who informed you that your insurance would go down?

I hear that! Having had State Farm Insurance for over 30 years did not stop them from cancelling the entire family's auto coverage with a weeks notice when they developed a problem with one of listed drivers on a policy.

I can kinda believe that based on a personal experience.

Back some years while I was still working, I carried auto insurance through State Farm and House Insurance with some carrier through some insurance agency (the agency had gone through2-3 buyouts and I think the carrier had been changed at least 3 times--so I lost track of specific names).

An agent at the house insurance agency wanted my auto insurance business. She talked to me about how I was going to save money by combining coverage. She really nagged me about it, hitting me up at least three times in a couple of years.

To get her off my back, I finally said ok, get me a quote.

I have had one or two small fender benders over the years. Also a few parking and speeding tickets. I don't think there were any speeding tickets that should have showed on my driving record at the time and I think my State Farm rates were reasonable. Definitely nothing I think should have made me uninsurable.

At any rate, I gave the (non-State Farm agent) all the information she asked for and she went off to get me these marvelous quotes. I never heard back from her. I may have asked her what the problem was a year or so later, but I don't remember if I did nor do I remember her reply if I did ask.

At the time, I did not know what the issue was, nor did I care so I did not ask any further.

There is another guy in my town, who actually lives in the same general area of the town as I do. I decided one possibility was that he had some driving record issues and, somehow, the agent crossed his information and my information when she was searching.

A "black hole of auto insurance mystery" that goes along with what op is saying.

This is just me being curious.

With this situation, whose insurance pays if wife with "junk coverage" drives husband's car with the "big" coverage and has an accident.

Is the couple's total coverage for the accident limited to wife's "junk" policy, or does the husband's "big" policy cover the accident?

Took you long enough. I kicked State Farm to the curb when they raised my rate for getting married. And no, my wife had a clean driving record.

I drove a company truck so I had sold my personal vehicle. We had only my wife’s car. But State Farm said that since we had only one car in the household and we each had one minor ticket in the past 5-years, they count that as two tickets. Put us in a higher risk class.

Nope! Changed companies and got better rates than Snake Farm had ever given me.

My condolences.

There used to be a fantastic insurer here, Oregon Mutual, that was very cheap and provided excellent service.

But then Portland legalized everything and decriminalized everything and defunded the police and made ingesting drugs mandatory and started putting Republicans in concentration camps. Suddenly it wasn't profitable to be a P&C insurer in Oregon and they pulled all personal lines in 2022.

So now your rates are ridiculous. But you'll be glad to know that social justice is on the march in Portland. So when you're writing those painful checks, just know that it's only your own racism that makes you object to these rates. Get woke, stay broke, and be happy to pay.

LOL. They can cram all that crap where the sun don't shine IMHO.
Yeah, I'm 350 miles from Portland on the Cali border, by the ocean, but likely I am paying for their mistakes . I was in the south bay are, and my young neighbors who wouldn't give me the time of day, walk around staring at their phones and wearing headphones in a daze were SOOOOO concerned about George Floyd that 1/2 the building emptied out to go to a protest. They're such caring people....not.
OK getting off topic here. People are genuinely nice here where we are now.

So, Geico says I'm getting the best rate possible, no accidents, no tickets. $600 every 6 months for 2 cars, and they say it's just the cost of doing business. I could take a stupid defensive driving course and save a big $14 every 60 months...Ooooo!!! Just made my payment...oh well.
The only reason I keep both cars insured is either one or the other ends up needing repairs, and of course the Benz is more comfortable, but the Ford gets like 35 mpg. And with every town 30 miles between each other, it can be useful but it's sooo cramped and zero features.

You moved to Oregon a couple of years ago. When did your SO become your SO? She hasn't changed her address with her carrier to avoid a possible rate increase. Hmmmmmm
