Mailer Question

Which is better? The one that has the better message. Send out the wrong message and you will get zero returns. Send out the correct message and
+3% is possible.

Which is better? It depends on your message.

Timing is another issue.

On my last mailer I got 7 cards back....maybe 8, a couple were on tri-care (don't know why they would mail a card in), a couple were on MA plans and the last 2 said they didn't mail anything in. I wish now I would have taken my $400 to the casino and put it all on Red.

I just did a mailer at the end of April. Sent 1000 mailers and so far have received 30 back and this time I put my phone number on the mailer. I received 2 phone calls, nothing came out of the 2 calls but I will definitely put my number on them for now on.

You just need to learn how to do a better mailer

You think this will work with Annuities ? Was looking into making my own card, my own prerecorded message that tracks #'s and calling the responders and leads that didnt respond. You think this is a good strategy?

I would definatly add the phone number its 1 extra line of info and if they call you bypass one of the hurdles of a return mailer which is contacting them either by phone or person.

That's what I'm looking for... so the reply card option shows much better response to the call-in option, correct?

You got 30 back?!? I've never gotten that many back on a DM. The most I've ever gotten back is about 20.

Did you make your own cards or do you hire a mail house to do the job?

It's 2010 for cryin' out loud!

In order to get maximum response, you've got to offer ALL of these response mechanisms;

- a phone number (a local # will outpull an 800#)
- mail it in
- send 'em to a website

Phone responses will be limited. People are "cautious" and afraid they'll be stuck on the phone with an insurance agent like Mark Rosenthal.

Most would rather repeatedly jab themselves in the eye with a sharp stick...

Response rate is really going to be around 1% for Direct Mail...So for 1,000 pieces you will see around 10-20 responses (Phone, BRC, Emails or Website). Direct Mail is a volume game, bit IMO still the best bang for your buck compared to outdoor advertising or newspaper. Don't limit your response mechanisms as M&M mentioned but I like the oversized dm specs as it tends to stick out more within the pile of mail versus a standard tri-fold which is the size of a #10 Envelope.

I personally like the mailers that have a spot for them to sign and put other information on there. It makes it much easier to overcome objections at the door if they took the time to sign it, put their spouses birthdate in, and phone number, etc..

Regardless of what (if anything) they put on the card, I have had most success with the door knock strategy. I suppose that is because I live in a densely populated area and knocking can be cost/time effective. Plus, none of my competitors seem to be knocking, so I have that advantage - not the case for phone.

Regarding the original question - I always do various mailers to see which gives me more return. I have had significantly better response rates on return cards versus just a phone/website. Yet, I don't have sophisticated tracking mechanisms for that.
