If someone is diagnosed with end stage renal disease and gets on Medicare as a result but does not get a medicare supplement during the open enrollment period which goes 6 mos. after being put on medicare because they are too sick is there any hope of getting a medicare supplement? The patient is 51 yrs. old.

when they turn 65 a new open enrolment. The only other way I can think of is if they have a med advantage and move out of service area. However the other issue will be is it a state where supp is offered to under 65 and if so are the prices so inflated that it is unaffordable.

You can apply for a Medicare Supplement Plan at any time. Therefore, even after your Medigap Open Enrollment window closes, you can still enroll. However, you will be required to go through medical underwriting and answer health-related questions during the application process. Read on to learn more about your health insurance options, including details on Medicare supplements and information to help you navigate the open enrollment process.

If this post was made in Aug 2022, would the answer now still be the same as in Aug 2015,
The person wouldn't have a chance for a Medigap plan until they turn 65?

Someone with end stage renal disease will never pass underwriting.

I don't know of a company that's not GI that will issue a Med Supp to someone on disability Medicare after the 6 month IEP. After that the only option would be MAPD until they turn 65.

Sounds like healthaccess is a spammer without a clue.
