I was trying to explain this to what I feel are smart friends of mine:
You have 300+ million people in USA
You have 45-50 million uninsured (some don't want to pay, some can not afford it, some cannot get it, etc)
The companies can cherry pick now with underwriting and limit certain coverages
Yet, rates still increase...
Come 2014
You add those 45-50 million uninsured
Companies have to take everyone
Companies have to greatly increase their coverage
Some HSA and high deductible plans may go away
And they expect rates to go down??
The friends I spoke with still did not understand that the amount the government pays for their insurance comes from taxes and fees. Those taxes and fees are passed on to the consumer in higher costs. It's the worst kind of trickle down economics....
