My sons car was totaled but not his fault. Does he have to notify his ins co?

Just to follow up on this . My son only dealt with the other company. They provided quick rental and approved the claim at $18,700 $6k more than he bought it for 9 months ago. He knew he bought at a steal but he was estactic what they gave him . So all in all it turned out well . Nobody was hurt and the other carrier was very fair.

Hope your son is doing alright first and foremost. Regarding how he will need to deal with his insurance it's hard to say. A couple of years ago my father and sister were in a car accident while in my car.

The driver rammed into them and knocked my bumper off. The driver was making an illegal turn and there were witnesses and cameras. There was also a police report noting that the other driver was at fault. Despite this he and his insurance company tried to argue he was not at fault. My insurance company did fight for me and eventually (like 4 months later) I received my payment but it's really a case by case situation.
