NC BCBS Reform Call

I just left a broker meeting in NC with the blues. When the question of commissions came up they danced a quick two-step. The answer they gave was "we expect to pay more commission next year." (I do not do individual)

What was telling was that they would not commit to a % per contract, rather the answer was "we expect to pay more commission next year." Which is true because they will have many more people insured.

They will probably pay more commissions because premiums will be so much higher and yes more people will be covered. It's great to hear it will start this way.

Speculation: In a couple of years it will go the way of Medicare Advantage and standardize commissions. It won't be "fair" for agents to get paid more based "steering" people towards more expensive plans.

On another note, do you have to be a NC resident to get contracted with BCBS NC?
