My friend was hit by a car while walking her dog. While she was taken by ambulance, the injured dog made it back to her house.
I was called by her housemates to help her dog because none of them have money or vehicles. I went and picked up the dog and took him to the nearest animal hospital. After some lab work, x-rays and 3 stitches I had to pay over $1800.00.
My friend has retained an attorney even though the other party has admitted they were at fault. But they won't be submitting the claim until they know what all the medical expenses will be. This may take several more months and she doesn't have any money to pay me back.
Can I somehow get reimbursed directly from the insurance company? I'm in trouble now because I won't be able to pay my property taxes. Fortunately the dog seems fine now but I didn't even take the him back for the recommended follow up visit because neither one of us can afford it.
What can I do?
