What is the Difference Between IMO/FMO and an Agency Under GA?

I can get appointments with life/health carriers through an IMO/FMO, or work as an agent for an agency which gets its appointments with different carriers through a GA. In terms of commissions and support for their agents, what are the pros and cons of each option?

The FMO is more national in nature and the IMO is more local and submits it's business through an FMO.
