February is Insurance Careers Month – Do You Recruit?

Realize it or not, February is “Insurance Careers Month,” (it’s only the second year for this effort) and organizers are trying to encourage insurance and risk management professionals to spread the word to HS/college students about what a great career can be had in the industry. (More info at link below)

They also really seem to be pushing to have young insurance professionals – who are excited about their career choice – get involved in recruiting more of their peers who are unfamiliar with the opportunities or might have an unfounded, unfavorable opinion of the insurance business (and therefore aren’t interested in even considering it).

Everyone’s heard we’ve got a growing talent gap situation with more people retiring from the insurance business than entering it (particularly agents). This Insurance Careers Month thing got me wondering about recruiting efforts.

If you came across a college student – say a business major, for example, that isn’t sure what they want to do upon graduation, would you proactively try to talk them into considering an insurance career? Maybe passively mention they should contact you if they are interested in finding out more about what you do? Or perhaps warn them to stay away at all costs if they value their sanity?

More generally, what – if anything – do you or your agency do to recruit new blood? And has it been effective?

An Employment Scam in the Financial Services Industry > HOME

I would help to open their eyes about the reality of what they're getting into. It's not a scam, but the overall training of new agents is sorely lacking because of the quality of sales managers. Most quality sales managers go back into regular production and give up all the headaches.
