would you open an agency and focus on p&c only or you would do life and health as well for the cross selling opportunities.

hiring people for different departments, not one person doing it all or do you think a p&c agency will have more credibility than a all forms of insurance agency

I see, just looking over everyone's insurance website and it seems that most of them offer all lines if insurance. Wondering if I should offer life and health as well

I primarily do P&C but I offer life and health as I see fit. I don't openly advertise it or anything but if I know a family that has my P&C, I'll offer some life, especially if they are getting a new mortgage. If it is part of a small business I'll offer some health or DI as well. I'll do an IRA or something every once and a while, though that is primarily if someone asks for it.

Things like that...

I'm making my website and business cards, I'm trying to figure out if I want to put all forms of insurance or property and casualty insurance. Want to look specialize but also want people to know we do life if needed. So many choices lol

If you are LICENSED, then advertise it, when someone calls you for L or H, say, I will have my specialist call you, and then you split the commission with them. This is what I do for life insurance, I let a financial planner I work with deal with all the life stuff, he lists me on the application, and I get half the commission.

Make 2 business cards? One for life and health and one for P&C, and then do whatever you think is necessary. Sometimes people might need another one as well. Or if you have someone else in your agency (brother, sister, spouse, etc.) that can do it, hand out that card.

Specializing works, definitely. But most people don't just walk in and grab a card, you usually talk to them at some point, too. Give them the card that gets you in the door and mention the rest later when you see the need.

Hmm making 2 business cards might me a good idea. The only problem I see is when people ask for my card when it's a non business related networking meeting, I don't want to give them two.

Then I do know there will be cross selling opportunities I might miss out on if i only say property and casualty.

Do you think it would look weird if I said property and casuality insurance and it says home auto business commercial life?

Life is where the money is at. Renewals are nice in P&C but when you can close a couple 5K life sells a month with little servicing that is awesome! P&C has a ton of service work and you may feel like a secretary and not a salesman.

That being said P&C is where a lot of my life clients come from. I would recommend doing both but having a mentor on the life side. You really need to learn why life insurance is such a good buy. The tax advantages are amazing and can really build a solid retirement fund.

Health Insurance is a waste of time. The new health laws are destroying the health insurance agent.
