Report Ranks Most Uninsured Cities, States

Funny, it seems like the states correspond to political leanings. I would be interested to see if the rates hold true for auto insurance, to see if it's really an attitude thing, or if it's a boycott of "Obamacare"...

That's definitely the case here. In some areas it is an attitude and money thing. Sure, a lot of people here are broke, but many who don't have the coverage don't have it because they don't make it a priority and not because they truly cannot afford it.

I haven't seen the numbers in a long time, but I remember reading about 20 years ago that about 1/4 of the drivers on the road here were uninsured. I would think it has improved due to some measures taken by the state with regard to enforcement, but I'd be shocked if we aren't still in the Top 10 with the highest percentage of uninsured motorists.

Our minimum coverage is very low also at 15k. For many of those folks, if you get an excess judgment, they'll just file bankruptcy.
