OOPS..I made a mistake, jbage007. His bonus was $31,050 and it was from HUMANA, not AETNA. Humana ran some type of award contest in 2009 that paid a $250 bonus per issued policy, payable in March 2010.

Actually, I believe the max bonus with Aetna individual for last year, was $3,000 per quarter...

Coventry One in MD just came out with a bonus. First one since they set up shop here.

Question; could carriers use bonuses as a way to get around the MLRs?
 
Would seem to be a way to at least lower a carrier's overall commission costs.

Say that ABC carrier pays out a flat 20% street. Maybe after the MLRs go into effect it's 5% street but, just like your example, pays up to 20% with 50 inforce policies.

Because of the 80/20 rule most of the comp paid would be at the 5% level. Interesting.
