Auto Insurance Results ‘Historically Bad’ in 2022: S&P

In 2022, the U.S. private auto insurance industry reported its worst underwriting results in over two decades, according to a S&P Global Market Intelligence analysis.

The net combined ratio for the sector — when excluding policyholder dividends — was 111.8. That figure was 11 points higher than 2021’s ratio.

Interesting that Progressive (96.3%) and Sentry (98.4%) were profitable for 2022.

Progressive probably due to a massive rate increase for 2022.

I haven't heard anything about Sentry for decades.

I believe Sentry is entirely business auto, not personal auto. Think they also own Dairyland who might issue personal auto

What do you mean? Loss ratios, moss tornadoes. Insurance is just a big scam.
