BCBSIL Child-only Plan & Comp

You are right, Condi. It's a mess and only going to get worse. The Emperor will be exposed for the incompetent *** he is as Obamacrap continues to roll out and the public discovers that they have been duped by an *** with no real world experience.

Be sure to tell your prospects who is responsible for no child only options, fewer plan choices, and rate increases.

It's sad that people who run this country are SHOCKED when they see companies back away from offering these type of
policies.

They (Congress, President, HHS, etc.) must think that businesses exist to be compassionate and be willing to lose money, if that's what compassion brings.

I would also wager that they're too dumb to realize that no insurance company will join the Exchange for exactly the same reason. What company would sell "Joe" a policy when "Joe" is on his way to the hospital due to a severe pain in his stomach?

Hmmm... maybe they're not that dumb and this is part of their overall plan to kill private insurance and replace it with Medicare-For-All. I see a HUGE train wreck ahead resulting in lots of unintended casualties across this nation.
:skeptical:

Anyone know if the recent "gift" from our government overlords of allowing insurers to have an open enrollment period for the guarantee issue children is going to change this for bcbsil?

I'm just curious if the insurance companies that had previously said they were going to suspend sale of "minor only" policies are reversing it.

It seems like statements like the one in the letter at the top of this thread:

"During the interim period while we are waiting for authorization to sell this new product, BCBSIL will temporarily suspend issuing new policies to children under 19 when the child is the primary insured."

and others by companies who were completely exiting the minor only market, are what prompted the feds to publish guidelines, or Q&A or whatever they are saying that insurers could implement open enrollment periods for the guaranteed issue type of kids. In the news articles yesterday they touted the fact that one insurer had reversed it's decision to exit the minor only market.

That is a a possibility. Much depends on what is allowed outside the exchange.

Obamacrap is still a moving target as HHS is making up the rules on the fly.

If Obamacrap morphs into what amounts to something similar to what is available now outside the exchange, and GI with bells and whistles inside the exchange, problem solved. There is so much backlash against Obamacrap already this is a possibility.

Kid only coverage is still developing. Until HHS makes up their mind the carriers will still bob and weave. The open enrollment escape clause makes GI for kids more palatable but does not completely alleviate the adverse selection issue.

Humana has already reversed its decision to stop selling child only plans. The fact that there is an OEP is pretty huge, as people would at least have some motivation to still sign their kids up for coverage, even when they aren't sick.

I think IL Blue will still keep this plan, though, for 2 reasons. One, it will allow them to submit a separate rate increase request to the state for their GI accessible block of biz, and also because it is direct enrollment, and they can test the effectiveness of selling while completely out of the broker loop.
