According to an extremely alarming article by Insurance Business Mag "California voters oppose proposed reforms that would provide insurance companies more leeway to set their rates in exchange for insuring homeowners in high wildfire risk areas, according to a poll commissioned by Consumer Watchdog."
Given how poorly explained the "plan" is, that might not be too surprising, but much of the rest of the article is shocking/surprising/odd:
  • "only 9% of voters voiced “strong” support for the insurance commissioner’s initiatives."
  • 55% of voters support the idea of denying insurance companies the right to sell car insurance in California if they refuse to sell homeowners and renters insurance to customers
After reading this article though, one name jumps out at you "Consumer Watchdog" who "tapped FM3 Research to conduct the survey. The firm polled over 600 likely November 2024 voters from October 26 to October 30."

I am not sure that I read these results to support that "Voters" want more regulation. However, it does appear that Lara's plan is DOA.

I was on the phone with a friend and client of mine who is a libertarian.

When I told him what is happening to his premiums is state wide, his first question was "can't the government do something?"

I explained that they did, and that has a lot to do with the mess that we are in.

Even him, a libertarian, his first response to the situation was that the government should come in and help fix this.

Frankly to someone that knows little or nothing about the situation, it kind of makes sense from a distance.

The "solutions" that Ca is coming up with are about as helpful as the other "solutions" they have come up with.

[California] Voters want “more regulation, not less”

☝️ I've proposed more regulations than anyone else – regulations that will make your head spin. And you know what? It's all for the great people of California. I know the Californians, and they know that I've got this incredible plan, it's like nothing you've ever seen before. We're going to create a government-mandated insurance policy that's so big, so beautiful, you won't believe it.

I call it the Non-Profit Al3x Lee Democratic Socialist Wealth Tax Citizens Mutual Stock Insurance Corporation of the California Government 501(c)(15) Monopolistic State Sponsored Fund. It's a mouthful, I know, but it's tremendous. Once this plan is mandated into law, you won't even remember the fair plan. That's right, don't sweat it. The fair plan will be a thing of the past.

Here's the deal, once this thing is mandated into law, there will be no need for the fair plan, or any other insurance for that matter, forget about it. We're talking about guaranteed coverage, and I mean GUARANTEED. How do I know? Because it's going to be written into the LAW. And let me tell you something, if it's in the law, it must be true. You can trust it because it's not just any law, it's MY law. And you know you can trust anything with my insurance forums pseudonym in it.

Now, some people might say, "Wait times, bureaucracy, red tape." Forget about it!✋ We're going to cut through all that. Coverage is going to be so fast, you won't even believe it. No wait times, no hassle, just tremendous coverage that you can count on.

I know what Californians want. I've been listening, and I've been working tirelessly on this plan because I understand you. ️ I understand your needs, your hopes, and your dreams. And let me tell you, this plan is going to make those dreams a reality.

So, folks, get ready for a new era of insurance in California. The Non-Profit Al3x Lee Democratic Socialist Wealth Tax Citizens Mutual Stock Insurance Corporation of the California Government 501(c)(15) Monopolistic State Sponsored Fund is coming, and it's going to be tremendously ACV
