CMS asked to cap commissions

My response to Stark......

I would like to comment on your stand on Medicare Advantage commissions. I have been helping Medicare beneficiaries since 2005 and have always done what is best for my clients. You seem not to understand how these plans change every year and that it is in the best interest for seniors to go with another plan when their current plan changes for the worst. It even says on the inside of the front cover of the Medicare book that these plans change every year and you should review your current plan and see what your other options are EVERY year.

From the Medicare Book 2008...

“With more Medicare choices than ever, it’s important that you look at your coverage every year. Plan costs and benefits change, and so can your health. The coverage that worked for you this year might still meet your needs in 2008. Or, there might be a better option."

That is what I do for my clients. The fact that you want to control what private companies want to pay us sounds like communism to me, is this not a free country where the companies can make this decision and not some out of touch representative decide what should be paid. To top it off do you have any clue as to what an agent has to go through during the AEP. (Annual Election) You do know what that stands for, right? It seems not since in your letter you talk about open enrollment about to begin. You also believe that we should encourage people to stay in the same plan when again the Medicare book says to check your plan to see if it still works for your situation. I have to work 12 to 18 hr days to help my clients decide what plan would be best for them. I make sure their drugs are on the formulary of the plan they may want to join or if they will be covered on the plan they are currently on. This all happens during the busiest time of the year with the holidays of Thanksgiving and Christmas and families traveling. Not to mention that the weather can be terrible with winter storms. The OEP is available for change but people cannot change their drug plan after Jan 1. I have submitted my last application the past 3 years after 11 pm on New Year’s Eve because of last minute calls from people wanting help. My holiday season is nonexistent because of the brilliant time frame that someone in a government job decided would be a good idea. What a joke.

Let me give you an example of a plan changing. Humana Gold Choice in my area went from a $0 premium with a $5000 MOOP with a $625 hospital stay and $4-$30 and $60 drugs to a $28 premium with a $6000 MOOP, $950 hospital stay and drugs now $7-$40 and $70. There is another plan with a $0 premium, $2500 MOOP and $350 hospital stay. It has no drug plan so client can get a separate drug plan with a good formulary for $22.10 premium and $8-$24-$55 drugs. Is it churning to help them to switch? So I guess that next year I would only get the renewal commission for helping someone get a better plan. Is this what you want? I would have to do the same work for 25% of the pay. That sounds like a great plan. I think when you retire you should only get 25% of your pay. You need to do your homework!

I seems that you have no idea what it takes to help seniors chose what would be good for them and that I provide a VERY valuable service that can make or break a seniors pocketbook every year. Government employees have no idea on how to help these people. I have made many calls to Medicare office and to the CMS office only to talk to people that read off a script and have no idea what they are talking about or even care. I even had a lady at the CMS office tell me that she hated working with these plans.

To finish off this message, I have people thank me all the time for what I have done to help them get through the maze of plans and save them money. I think that you are paid too much also and you get to vote yourself a raise all the time. I find it un-American and socialist that you think that you even have a right to control what a company pays someone to do ANY job.

I am going to send this email to every representative and Senator out there to maybe show the opinion of people that do the work with these plans and actually help the seniors of this country.

CMS set the rules .........and the insurance companies are following them........too bad CMS.......how many times are they going to try to change the rules?? on compensation......nothing should change this year.....it done!
Like it or not CMS.......People forget we have EXPENSES too,(lots of them) as indendepent agents. Every one looks at income, but NO ONE looks at expenses we incure! ( health insurance , benefits, postage, marketing, travel, E&O, licesing fees, FOOD & Shelter, AUTO, office help, etc, etc, etc) . If you look at all expenses we should get a raise!

Buy he way who do we have as a lobby group for Medicare agents?........We sure as heck need one....especially of the Democrats get into office....Do we have anyone lobbying for us??????.........Is AHIP our lobby group?? any one know??

SCOTTFREE: That was a wonderful response to Rep Stark and the Medicare committee!

You have stated every one of my feelings, and I'm sure others here vote the same.

I give you FIVE stars.

Believe it or not ........this commission issue is coming to light!........I got an email from Aetna and Todays Option...TODAY regarding this!..........Todays Option says you may have to review your 2009 marketing Plans!.....Are you kidding??..........My marketing plans are in place and some money has been spent.......You do not just turn on a switch and began marketing.......I can not beleive we are still taking about this issue this late in the year....Every one had one year to work out the details and now in the ninth inning we are going to change the comp...........If they do this .........THIS will be the last year I sell individual Medicare Plans.........I will throw in the towel........This is what CMS and the Democrats what, right?........ALL USA seniors if you need help just call 800-Medicare and have them come to your house and assist you with all the details and paperwork!

MKing I've read a few of your post and they blame the Democrats for all of our woes. last I heard we are still under a Republican administration.

Not saying that the Bush administration are saints, but he is working with a Democratic Congress.

Ms. Pelosi states that there will be an additional 60 Democratic seats and the what appears to be a very strong chance of a Democratic President guess which Sesame Street words we will be learning?

Monday - Today's word of the day is Taxes
Tuesday - Today's word of the day is Redistribution
Wednesday - Today's word of the day is Socialism

IMHO that is what I think that it will be like. Agree or disagree it doesn't matter, because I hope that I am wrong, but if I'm correct, God help us all.

Wait, God won't be able to help us with our Democratic President and Congress. Guess we will all just have to face East 7 times a day.

seadevil you have bought into the mccain -palin talking points. If you had the time to listen to the 30 minute infomercial by the obama campaign you might look at things from another perspective. Please let's stop the divisiveness
America is bigger than this.I don't want to start a political argument with you I just hope you are willing to give a new perspective a chance. Do you really honestly believe that obama is not a Christian?

Hunter do you honestly believe that Obama sat in a pew for 20 years and didn't hear the lunatic Reverend Wright speak?Do you honestly believe that he never really knew exactly who Ayers was? Do you honestly believe he knew nothing of what ACORN was doing? Do you honestly believe he never attended a meeting with Anti-Isreal PLO scumbags?
If you believe that Barrack Obama is innocent and dumb to all these things, then so be it. I guess you believe in the Jack-o-lope too, huh?

Hunter, as I said, it was my opinion agree with or not that is everyone's right.

As for buying into McCain/Palin talking points, no not really, that was and still is my opinion of the man. Call me the man needing the tin foil hat, but I also personally think that he would sell us (the country) down the river in a New York minute.

As for if I think he is a Christian or not, no not really. But hey, if I wrong then so be it. I admit I was wrong, but just because he says he is now, again no. Hell, if the politicians thought they could get away with telling everyone that no one would pay taxes, or at the end of the year, the Government would send them a $10,000, they would, fortunately though, I think there is enough of a majority that would know this was BS.

Wait a minute, you mean those Jack-o-lopes that I've seen hanging in some road side stores or in catalogs aren't real. Dang, I had planned on going on a hunting trip some day for them.:D

Seadevil,I thought your response to my post was very reasonable. You are right everyone is entitled to an opinion.
I also agree that politicians, whether Republican or Democrat
will tell people what they think is necessary to get elected.
I disagree that he would sell us down the river any faster than the senator from arizona. Having said that, I have great admiration for John Mccain. He is an American hero.
"my opinion" is that Barack Obama is the person to lead "Our" Country at this time. Seadevil I bet you sell a lot of Insurance.
