When we started out in the direct mail business we did it in house. For anyone starting out I'd recommend doing that. Together with a good list, postage$aver software and a bulk mail permit (and your kids) you can crank out some mailings fast. We ended up sending out 10k month from an inhouse phaser color printer and software to setup the address & barcode, a folder (or kids), and a tabber (or kids) it's really cheap to get good results. We don't do that anymore we use standard approved letters and postcards and have jobbed it out to various companies
