Loss during vacancy: When will renovation or construction activity defeat a vacancy exclusion?

A lot of that litigation could have been avoided had the insured's purchased the vacancy coverage that's readily available from most insurance companies.

I used to have it on my rentals just in case the time between tenants ran longer than the exclusion period.

I also bought it when I bought my current house and didn't plan on moving in for several months. Best to buy the coverage rather than have the argument when a loss occurs.

Cost me $69 annual, less the refund when I deleted it after moving in. Small price for peace of mind.
