Who says I can't charge for my work? As long as I'm not giving advice regarding securities (which would require a series 65 or 66), I can charge a consultation fee. Of course, you'd have to charge the fee BEFORE you started working on their case.

Keep in mind that to do this right, you'd have to establish a separate legal entity to make checks out to, draft agreements, and have a way to deliver some kind of written analysis and recommendations. Definitely NOT recommended for someone who is not an independent agent/advisor.

In my state there is a separate advisor's license.

Seems like too much work to bother.
