I think going out on your own immediately after getting licensed is a terrible idea. I would suggest working for a captive like State Farm for a year or two to get a bearing on things.

For reference, I am 8 years into indi commercial only p&c, and that's how I started, and what I, and many others, would recommend.
 
It CAN be done... but @Markthebroker is right, it takes a special person with a very particular circumstances to start from scratch even with experience...

I would the last person to discourage you, but I would look at any opportunities for a paid internship... i.e. job at an agency to learn the ropes.
 
Did you ever find a cluster? I realize this is very old but I am now in the same boat. I've looked at so many clusters my head is spinning. Goosehead to Superior Access to name a few. Also one called Insurance Associates of America.
