Questions On Being Captive & Selling As An Independent

So not sure if this has been covered but if I'm captive and I decide to become independent let's say I start selling outside of the captive company. Will I get my license revoked or put in jeopardy for doing this or am I only putting my assignment and work with the captive company at jeopardy? I'm trying to cushion my transition by starting sales outside of the captive company that way I can just quit but is there any repercussions I'm not seeing here? I know if I'm caught I can get my assignment terminated but is there anything else I should watch out for?
