Insurance for a Car with a Shared Title

I share a car with a friend here in California, and we are both named on the title. For the next 9 months I'll be out of state on internships. Is it necessary for me to keep any car insurance? I will not be driving any car at all. He will be the only one driving our shared car during that time, and of course he has insurance that covers himself and the vehicle.

Legally, no. There won't be a requirement. The exception to this is maybe the bank who might have something in their fine print that says you do, but the car is insured, which is what they usually require.

You should be safe dropping your personal coverage as long as you don't drive another car while you are at your internships. If you do, then you may not have coverage on the other car.

Am I reading this wrong or are you saying you both have the same car insured on separate policies?
