California retroactive coverage for a baby, but the baby has mortality.

In California, we usually apply for baby's coverage within 31 days after born to start the coverage retroactively. The baby was surrogated, and the mother does not have any coverage. Unfortunately, the baby has mortality before the enrollment. Can the insurance company accept the enrollment and cover for the medical expenses? Does ACA have anything about this?

Thank you!

Yes, I would say the baby can be covered for the period of life if still within 30 days, or whatever CA exchange requires.

Apply for the newborn. Get approved with documents. Make payment on policy for 1st month.

Then, terminate policy due to death retroactively. All claims should be forwarded to the carrier.

What a terrible occurrence, so sorry for the parents.
