Simple disengage, absolutely no chance of condescending verbiage, and it gets the point across while being a friendly advisor.

Absolutely. At least he corrected you here rather than in pubic. Be thankful for that. Sman is a giver.
 
Never happened to me, but you have to empathize with her... and nip it in the bud. I hope your subtle hints work, but you may have to be more direct. I'm sure it will work out fine.
