How Much Do You Pay for Your Website?

Well...You're in the top 20 for "Long Term Care Insurance." That's a nice phrase if you can get to the Top 3.

Thanks. Just started blogging, SEO, etc...I am patient. Rome wasn't built in a day. Showing up on first page for long term care insurance reviews, long term care insurance ratings, long term care insurance quotes, etc. Haven't made much headway on "Long term care insurance." Been stuck in the 19-23 range....still, not bad after only 45 days........should have done this 5 years ago....

If you want to have an SSL certificate (https not http), you will need a dedicated IP address and that will cost you more than $10 a month.

Some people won't enter certain personal information unless they see the closed padlock. However, the difference in conversions probably doesn't justify the additional cost for a new, low traffic site.

My "mature" insurance sites have SSL certificates, I think those cost me about $30 a month each if you include all the fees.

I have a Virtual Private Server for the sites that don't have enough traffic yet to justify the dedicated IP address and the SSL certificate. My VPS costs about $45 a month and I can host a couple of dozen low traffic websites on the VPS.

Alston, if I understand you correctly I should probably get an SSL certificate because more people will complete my form. $400 year doesn't seem like a lot of money to pay for higher conversions??? I would only need 1 additional sale every 10 years to break even???

Alston, in your opinion if 100 visitors fill out a quote request form without an SSL certificate, how many additional visitors might fill out a form WITH a SSL certificate??

You can self generate an ssl certificate for free on your server in most cases, it does not require third party verification or a fee.

Having said that, I used the godaddy ssl the first time because I didn't know.

An ssl certificate is just a encryption key that works as a pair between the host and sender to encrypt the transmission. There is no justification for it costing 50 bucks a year for one. They're worth like 5$.

You do need shell access to use this guide, but I think it can also be done somehow in cpanel/whm.

Since the cost is so low relative to the potential benefit, I've never done an A/B test to see how many more conversions an SSL page gets when compared to a non SSL page.

Once a site proves that it can be profitable, I add the SSL certificate and just take it for granted that I will be repaid many times over.
