Lest we forget

For decades, Memorial Day was celebrated on May 30 of each year. In 1971, it was changed to the last Monday in May to give Federal employees a 3 day weekend. I think that caused many of us to forget what the day was supposed to be, as it quickly evolved into the 3 day “summer kickoff” it’s become.

I came across this song this morning, sung by two combat veterans. I thought it was a fitting statement for the original date and meaning for Memorial Day:
