I think he will have some future difficulties if he goes back to original medicare and does not enroll in a supplement and a drug plan.

Can a person dissenroll from an mapd and go back to original medicare any time of the year if its his first year in medicare or does he need a " valid reason"?

If the MAPD member meets one of the two trial right requirements, yes. If so, there is no requirement for a valid reason to return to Original Medicare.
