How Do You Make Cold Calling Entertaining?

Just curious to those that are still cold calling this day and age for business (whether its for health, life, med supps, FE), what do you do in order to make Cold Calling fun? How do you spice it up? Put a twist on it? Tweek it? You get my point. I have tried several telemarketing agencies, and the leads are always better when you do the calling yourself I have found (plus most telemarketing companies suck).
And if you dont cold call,well I dont want to hear from you (paul), go waste someone else's time besides your own...

I don't know that you can make it fun, similar to going to the dentist. However, the more you practice doing it, it is not such a burden.

Cold-calling is the only way I prospect and things will really change when you realize that that one person you sold due to cold-calling, turn into 2-5 sales because of referrals. The person you are speaking to probably has a spouse and if you treat them right they will give you the names of friends and family.
 
100% of my business comes from cold-calling. I call on business owners for estate planning and for smaller companies (under 5 million sales) I call for general planning. You have to understand that hearing NO is a good thing and the more often you hear it the closer YES is. One thing to make it fun is to just not give a f*@%. What I do sometimes is say things that make it harder to set the appointment for the thrill of the chase.

Use a cold calling presentation, not a script. Understand that cold calling is an art. Become extremely proficient at it. It will make you successful and there isn't anything more "fun" than being very successful.

BTW Dwayne, I just had a previous client from cold calling give me a referral, hes also seeing if a friend of his that owns a group plan will allow me to see if i can get better rates. I saved him almost $2500 a year on his health insurance.

Some of the things I have thought about doing is to see how much info I can get out of each person. I already try to get company, plan, premium, whos on the plan before I hang up with them (ty Frank for that nugget). Now I think I will ask to see if they want life rates, and also see if I can get referrals from them. Just 10 more seconds on the call.
Anyone get a referral without actually helping that person out?

Frank would you mind sharing your "presentation"?

It is all part of the training I provide for agents who purchase YIO. It is not a ploy to sell programs. YIO is an important part of my whole sales process.

In addition to the forty page document I have put together explaining Medicare, Medicare Supplements and how I sell them, I spend an average of about four hours on the phone with an agent. There is a whole lot more to learning to use the telephone than just simply reading a script/presentation.

I feel the forty page document, YIO and my time is well worth the small investment an agent would make in their business. The first year commission from writing one Med Supp app is usually going to more than cover the cost.

Well, you could watch porno flicks between calls. Of course, that would drag out the calling session, but it certainly would relax you between calls. BTW emptyeternity, it is buy not by----which means cash upfront!
