ATT Cancels Retiree Health Plan

Thank you for your reply. I (we) don't have an appointment to talk to Aon rep until the end of September. Until I came to this board, I didn't even know how much contribution ($2700 per person) would come from AT&T towards our insurance coverage. We did participate in a teleconference some months ago, but I don't think the amount of the contribution had been settled yet.

I just got my first call from an ATT retiree today. As a result of having read this thread, I was able to give him far more information than he had already been given.

He is scheduled to meet with an Aon rep next week. He is going to report back to me what he finds out, and I will report back here what I find out. He is all for getting his PDP through them only, and the supplement for he and his wife through me, if that's allowed. We will see.

From AON FAQ section:

14. Can HRA credits be used to reimburse expenses incurred for plans that are not purchased through the Aon Exchange?

The HRA is established after an eligible individual enrolls in a medical and/or prescription drug plan through the Aon Exchange. Once the HRA is established, any eligible expenses that this individual submits for himself for reimbursement will be processed. For example, if the individual is enrolled in a prescription drug plan through the Aon Exchange and is enrolled in a Medigap plan outside of the Aon Exchange, eligible expenses incurred under either plan may be reimbursed through the HRA. Note, however, that the premium auto-reimbursement feature will not be available for non-Aon Exchange plans. Claims will need to be submitted manually.

Feedback I am getting is the Aon reps seem pushy, but that may be the ones my clients have talked to. They also don't have answers to routine questions like I do. Reps have to look it up and get back to you.

Also, don't expect service after the sale or the ability to talk to the same person every time you call.

Kind of like dealing with the govt.

It's bad.I met with a lady who had lost retiree benefits and was pawned off to the AON exhange to be her Medicare health plan advisers. Even though her doctors where not contracted they recommended Humana PPO as the best value. She was so confused on exactly what type of insurance she had. This was on Feb 13 this year so I explained she could use the annual dis-enrollment period to get a med supp and pdp .We also did 3 way with her benefits admin. and confirmed she could take med supp with me, the pdp with AON and still keep her stipend.

When the time came to make the phone call to AON and request a PDP enrollment using the annual disenrollment SEP it a complete PITA.First they wanted to transfer her to the enrollment/retention specialist for a consultation about her best options so after about 25 minutes on the phone with her son on the other line with me starting to get very irate at the knucklehead AON " advisers " and they finally transferred us to someone who supposedly was going take the PDP application but the first and second ding dong we spoke with were adamant she was locked in and couldn't change. Her son on the phone with me now at this point 35 minutes in to the phone call was now going ballistic and demanded to talk with a supervisor to get his mother enrolled in a PDP using the Annual disenrollment Period SEP. Finally after more than 45 minutes on the phone we talked to someone who understood what we were requesting and acknowledged that it was allowable according to CMS rules.By the time the application was finished it was well over an hour.

Do you think if this lady didn't have the help of an experienced agent like me to explain what her rights were as medicare beneficiary that the AON "advisers" would have helped get off the MA plan she was extremely unhappy with by the 2/14 deadline ?

Good for you. Hanging in there when you knew you were right.

I suspect most of the Aon reps are about as helpful as Obamacare navigators.

I have spoken to several AT&T retirees and many have interest in looking outside of Aon/AT&T to purchase their Supplement policy. However, not a single person has been able to produce the "lose of employer coverage" letter needed to complete the application. Have you seen this letter or do you know when the retiree will receive it?
